Our Story
Our two farms
We have two farms, located in the North of Tasmania, one in Westbury and the other in Meander. Our Westbury property is the original home of Barnett Angus. A small 150-acre picturesque farm with an impressive feeding pad to keep those bulls happy.
The Bramblewick Farm is made up of undulating pastures on rich red soils and a 50-acre natural bush block abundant with wildlife diversity plus a small 35-year-old vineyard.
We’ve recently bought 200 acres’ just outside Meander, which has come with an extremely reliable water source and a huge rainfall. With beautiful soil and good management this place will compliment Bramblewick Farm perfectly. We’ve been blown away this summer by how fast the pasture’s returns after cutting for silage.

Our foundation
Starting with 3 donor cows from Strathewen and acquired donor additions from Ayrvale, the core of the herd are high indexing females selected for high fertility, exceptional growth rate and carcase values.
The star donor turned out to be Strathewen Regent Mittagong J23 who has produced over 40 progenies, many of which make up the core of the Barnett Angus herd.
An intensive ET and IVF program enables Barnett Angus to have a unique offering of superior carcase maker genetics. The next generation is coming up strong from weaning and we are excited to get some new Pathfinder Tasmania T756 sons and daughters on the ground by Spring 2024.
With some young heifers coming through its time to cycle the donors out and bring in the new blood, with some hand-picked sires like Myers Fair n Square, HPCA Veracious and POSS Deadwood these young heifers and going to make perfect donor material.
Our philosophy
Good soil, good cattle and good wine all need a dedicated focus and careful management to progress and sustain an enterprise that satisfies the spirit.
We use regenerative practices to continuously improve the soil and enhance the environment for our cattle to thrive.
Great cattle are not an accident. They come with generations of proven maternal excellence and a clear picture of what best works in a natural dry land environment. An environment that experiences tough times and good times which is the story of Australia.
We are very conscience that the value of the product that leaves the farm is underpinned by an enhanced customer experience that emanates from high marbling grass feed animal with the providence of being raise naturally and ethically.

The breed plan
Planning is the most important task we can do. Sticking to that plan may not always be possible, or even appropriate at the time. Diverting from the main plan is something we all do, but knowing how to get back on track is incredibly important.
Our plan is simple. We aim to breed light birthweight animals with strong growth markers and a light mature cow weight. Along with these high growth desires we next focus on carcase values that can contribute to improving the end product. We love to have our own meat on the plate at the end of the day, so its very important to us that our animals taste great but also have a full life. With this in mind we focus of genetic gains that propel us forward and allow our breeders to be making a significant contribution in our herd, or indeed your herd.
